Carluccio and the Renaissance Cookbook
The BBC airs an hour long documentary on [Bartolomeo Scappi ->@wiki] and his Opera on 27 December at 8pm. The Indepedent has seen a preview and is very positive:
Carluccio and the Renaissance Cookbook gives us an insight into the excesses and flights of fancy of Italian Renaissance cookery, with its fashionable emphasis on sugar and spice. What I remember most, however, is an extreme close-up of a barbecue spit popping out through a suckling pig’s bum.

Waarom noemden we het boek Lieve schat, wat vind je lekker? Sommigen vinden de titel oubollig, anderen leggen de link met seks. Oubollig kan, want de titel is een letterlijk citaat uit het Koocboec van Antonius Magirus:
Siet, het staet hier plat, en breckt u hooft daer soo seer niet mede, hier staet in: herteken wat lust u?
En wie weet was Magirus hier bewust een beetje dubbelzinnig; er zitten nog wel meer seksuele “innuendo’s” in het Koocboec. Omdat moderne lezers het woord herteken (letterlijk “hartje”) uitspreken als “hertéken” in plaats van “hèrteken” hebben we de hedendaagse vertaling die Marleen van dit fragment maakte als titel gebruikt.

Bij de Nederlandse uitgeverij Begijnekade 18 verscheen zopas een facsimile-editie van De Nieuwe, Welervarene Utrechtsche Keuken-meid.
